OMERS records positive investment returns despite worst market environment since 2008

Despite the number of economic challenges of 2022, OMERS has generated a 2022 investment return of 4.2 percent, adding C$4.9 billion ($3.7 billion) of investment income to the plan.

“Our investment strategy that emphasizes high-quality assets, diversification, active management and a disciplined long-term perspective, served the plan and our members well in 2022, producing positive returns in a year where broad market indices and the vast majority of investors experienced losses,” said Blake Hutcheson, president and CEO at OMERS. “In a difficult environment, our portfolio and the team behind it have performed very well.”

Hutcheson noted that throughout 10 years, OMERS has earned an average net return of 7.5 percent, exceeding its benchmark and adding C$64.4 billion ($48 billion) to the plan.
