MassMutual CIO to retire after 12 years

Tim Corbett, CIO of Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. (MassMutual), will retire after leading the company’s investment strategy and overseeing its general investment account (GIA) for the past 12 years.

With a distinguished 40-year career in investment management, Corbett joined MassMutual in 2011 and built a successful investment management model and team. During his tenure at MassMutual, the company doubled its GIA to more than $220 billion and ushered in new investment opportunities.

In partnership with Barings, MassMutual’s global institutional asset manager, the company’s portfolio grew to include a wide range of diversified investments, including renewable energy, private equity and more. The pension fund also invests in commercial real estate with the help of Barings, which handles the vast majority of its real estate investment management.
