Institutional investors to boost investments in infrastructure and renewable energies

Institutional investors are planning to substantially boost their investments in infrastructure and renewable energies over the next three years, according to a recent study by German research institute V.E.R.S. Leipzig and Commerz Real.

The research surveyed 20 German insurers, representing half of the capital invested by the German insurance industry, and 10 pension funds, representing more than one-third of the capital of all pension schemes.

The survey revealed that 83 percent of investors intend to step up their activities in alternative investment funds (AIFs). Of those, 70 percent planned to increase their investments in infrastructure funds, with only 3 percent saying they planned to scale down their activities.
