Illinois SURS searches for open-end core-plus real estate fund managers

by Jody Barhanovich

The $20.3 billion State Universities Retirement System of Illinois has requested proposals from qualified firms to provide open-end core-plus real estate fund investment management services.

The purpose of the allocation is to reduce total plan risk and diversify the portfolio. It is anticipated that one or more investment managers will be hired to manage approximately $300 million.

As of June 30, 2017, Illinois SURS had a 6 percent real estate target, according to the RFP, which is available on the pension fund’s website. Proposals are due by Jan. 19. A hiring decision is anticipated on March 9.
