Howard Hodel, Anthony Goo accept new CIO roles at ERS Hawaii

Howard Hodel has been named acting CIO of the Employees’ Retirement System of the State of Hawaii (ERS Hawaii). Hodel replaces Elizabeth Burton, who resigned June 30 after nearly four years as CIO.

Hodel joined ERS Hawaii in 2014 and most recently served as deputy CIO and chief risk officer, overseeing the $7 billion diversifying-strategies portfolio. Before ERS Hawaii, Hodel provided financial-, investment- and energy-consulting services to institutional clients in Hawaii and on the mainland. His experience also includes serving as executive vice president and manager, asset management group at Bank of Hawaii, and senior vice president and manager, market risk investments at Bank of America.

As part of the move, Anthony Goo, ERS’s investment officer of public markets, will step into the role of acting deputy CIO.
