Google to build $850m Taiwan data center

by Andrea Zander

Google has won approval from Taiwan’s government to build a second data center in the country.

The cost of the new data center is approximately $850 million. Construction of the Tainan facility is scheduled to begin at the end of this year at the Tainan Technology Industrial Park, located in the Annan District of Tainan City.

Google last month announced plans to build a second data center in Taiwan, acquiring land in the southwestern city of Tainan.

Its first data center became operational in Changhua County, located 63 miles north of Tainan, in 2013.
