GI Partners to expand data infrastructure strategy into Europe

Matt Barker has joined GI Data Infrastructure as a managing director based in London to lead digital infrastructure investing in Europe.

GI Data Infrastructure is a sector-focused value-add infrastructure investment strategy that invests in data transport, data center, wireless access and tech-enabled infrastructure operating companies. GI Partners has been investing in the data infrastructure space, primarily in North America, since the firm's founding in 2001. Prior to joining GI Partners, Barker was a partner with 3i Infrastructure, where he led numerous digital infrastructure investments in multiple European countries.

From 2010 through October 2022, Barker worked on infrastructure investments at London buyout firm 3i Group. Prior to that, he served as an analyst for the Australian global finance services company Macquarie Group.

The firm’s inaugural fund, Data Infrastructure Fund, closed in 2020 with $1.8 billion.
