The U.S. Senate has voted, 53-45, to confirm Gary Gensler as the next chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
In 1979, Gensler joined Goldman Sachs, where he spent 18 years. His last role at Goldman Sachs was co-head of finance. He left when he was nominated by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be the assistant secretary of the Treasury.
In November 2020, Gensler was named a volunteer member of the Joe Biden presidential transition Agency Review Team to support transition efforts related to the Federal Reserve, Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the National Credit Union Administration, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
