Firms call on investment managers to focus on affordable housing in the U.K.

by Marek Handzel

Cardano and Big Society Capital have called on real estate managers to focus on fund strategies that increase the supply of good quality, affordable housing in the United Kingdom.

The consultancy and social impact investor have joined forces to direct up to £195 million (€233 million/$265 million) of new investment toward strategies addressing the U.K. housing crises. The capital will be raised by combining Big Society Capital’s own investment and client capital from both firms.

Both companies want to expand the institutional affordable housing sector in the U.K. by encouraging additional institutional investment into the market. They are calling on managers to participate in a joint request for proposals (RFP) that is focused on strategies that increase the supply, while also generating a market-rate financial return. The RFP will be open to proposals that offer meaningful solutions to help address U.K. social and affordable housing challenges.
