A new report by the American Clean Power Association has revealed that renewable energy sources such as wind, utility solar and battery storage power capacity in the United States topped 170 gigawatts, propelled by a record 26 gigawatts of clean energy projects coming online in 2020.

In its first Clean Power Annual report, the American Clean Power Association said that new clean power installations included 16,836 megawatts of land-based wind (representing 50 percent of new additions), 8,894 megawatts of utility-scale solar projects (capturing 26 percent of the market) and 760 megawatts of battery storage capacity.

Combined, wind, solar and battery storage power represented 78 percent of new power installations in 2020. For comparison, in 2010, wind, solar and battery storage accounted for only 28 percent of new power installations.

The amount of new wind capacity in 2020 was more than three times the amount installed in 2010, and solar install
