City of Austin Employees’ Retirement System launches search for CIO

The $3.4 billion City of Austin Employees' Retirement System (COAERS) has launched a nationwide search for a new CIO to direct its investment program.

The search is being led by executive director Christopher Hanson and will accept applications from interested and qualified candidates until the position is filled.

“The COAERS investment program is a best-in-class fund,” said Hanson. “We’re looking for forward-thinking candidates who possess strong investment credentials, embrace innovation in investment management practices that align with COAERS’ investment beliefs and strategic vision, and can navigate the intellectual challenge of guiding the board through complex investment decisions.”

COAERS is governed by an 11-member board of trustees and currently has 24 staff positions. The board of trustees is responsible for overseeing the investment of the fund. The pension fund currently employs three investment professionals who report to the CIO and as
