by Lewis Dayton

The Municipal Employees’ Annuity and Benefit Fund of Chicago (MEABF of Chicago) has committed $25 million to Mesirow Financial Real Estate Fund V, recent meeting documents show.

Managed by Mesirow Financial, Mesirow Financial Real Estate Fund V is seeking to raise $1.25 billion of capital to invest, with a value-added strategy, in the U.S. multifamily sector with a secondary focus on the student housing sector.

As of Feb. 29, 2024, 6 percent of the MEABF of Chicago’s $4 billion portfolio was allocated, below the 9 percent target allocation for the asset class.

The MEABF of Chicago had committed $25 million to Mesirow Financial Real Estate Fund II in 2015.
