CEO to leave San Diego County Employees at end of month

by Kali Persall

David Wescoe, CEO of the San Diego County Employees Retirement Association (SDCERA), has announced his plans to leave the pension fund to pursue a job opportunity in the private sector.

Wescoe notified the board of retirement of his decision at an April 16 meeting and revealed that his last day would be April 30.

“Given all of SDCERA’s organizational accomplishments during the past five years, I have been considering for some time accepting another challenge. And, there is nothing like the COVID-19 pandemic to accelerate that focus,” Wescoe told the board. “I am very proud of my SDCERA tenure, and our response to the COVID-19 crisis highlighted all of our accomplishments: SDCERA weathered the onslaught of the most disruptive human and financial tsunami in the last century without missing a beat.”

He also noted, “SDCERA is a sterling example of what a financial institution that cares about its members should do.”
