CalSTRS names Lamont King as general counsel for investments

by Kali Persall

The California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS) has promoted Lamont King as assistant general counsel for investments.

King joined CalSTRS in 2010 as one of two specialized counsels on the investment-focused legal team and rose to senior investment counsel in 2013. According to CalSTRS, he has served in a lead capacity in that role for the past two years.

Prior to CalSTRS, King practiced transactional real estate, civil litigation and public interest law.

In his new role, King will lead the investment counsel division in the office of the general counsel. His team will provide legal support to the investments branch and will guide the implementation of CalSTRS’ collaborative model, as well as increase participation in co-investments, joint ventures and more complex hybrid investments.

“Lamont has a decade of experience providing legal leadership for internal and external investment counsel,” said Brian Bartow, general counsel at CalSTRS
