Almanac Realty Investors founding partner passes away

John McGurk, founding partner of Almanac Realty Investor, has passed away.

He graduated from Loyola in 1965, and he was deployed to Vietnam with the United States Coast Guard the following year, achieving the rank of ensign. He received an MBA from the University of Southern California in 1971.

McGurk started his real estate career in the investing arm of Prudential Insurance Co. in 1971. In partnership with the Rothschild family, McGurk formed the real estate investment and advisory business of Rothschild North America in 1981.

The firm’s name changed to Almanac Realty Investors in 2012.

He retired as managing partner in 2009; however, he remained as a partner and member of the investment committee. He announced his formal retirement in September of this year.

In addition, McGurk was a member of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers, the Urban Land Institute and the Pension Real Estate Association.

He also served on the boards of Allegro Holdings, CA Student Living, Denholtz Holdings, JD Real Estate, Lexington Corporate Partners, Shaner Hotel Holdings, Vanta Commercial Properties, Welshco Holdco, and Welsh Property Trust. And he served on the boards of Merritt Properties, Metrogate and Shaner Hospitality Finance.
