1.1 GW N.J. wind project reaches milestone in federal review process

The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has released the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the proposed Ocean Wind 1 offshore wind-energy project in New Jersey.

Ocean Wind 1, which will be the first wind farm off the coast of New Jersey, is Ørsted’s 1.1 gigawatts offshore wind farm, estimated to generate $1.17 billion in economic benefits for the state and create thousands of jobs over the life of the project.

The project is part of Biden-Harris administration’s goal of deploying 30 gigawatts of offshore wind energy capacity by 2030. This is the first DEIS published by this administration for an offshore wind-energy project.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said, “The multi-faceted impact of Ocean Wind 1 cannot be overstated; in addition to spurring economic growth and generating new jobs, the project will help us accomplish significant GHG reductions,
