Corner Brook Health Partnership, a consortium led by Plenary Group has broken ground on a seven-story acute-care hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, according to InfraPPP.
In July, the consortium, which also includes PCL Constructors Canada, Marco Services and Johnson Controls Canada, secured the C$750 million ($571.9 million) contract to design, build, finance and maintain the property.
Upon completion, the new Western Memorial Regional Hospital campus will span 600,000 square feet and connect to the 145-bed long-term-care home currently under construction. It will feature 164 beds, 15 palliative care beds and 10 rehabilitation care beds, and use the same services currently provided at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, with the addition of an expanded cancer care program and radiation services, according to InfraPPP.
The hospital currently offers medical, nursing, surgical, emergency, pharmacy, laboratory, medical imaging, intensive care and renal care services. The facility currently has 217 beds and serves 78,000 people in the western region of Corner Brook, according to the hospital’s website.
Construction work scheduled to take place in August will include perimeter fencing, with heavy equipment and work trailers appearing onsite. In September, excavation will begin, followed by the pouring of concrete for the foundation by early October.
The facility is expected to be completed in 2023.
