The number of infrastructure greenfield deals have increased in North America in the third quarter of the year, with the brownfield market remaining stable, according to a new report from Inframation and Sparkspread.
According to the report, there were 392 transactions valued at $116.9 billion in North America in the first three quarters of the year, up from 340 ($107 billion) from the same time last year, 254 ($89.9 billion) in 2017 and 272 ($79 billion) in 2016.
The energy, power, renewables and transportation sectors showed the most activity [see chart below]. In addition, greenfield public-private partnerships accounted for 15 deals valued at $6.62 billion, one deal short of last year, and up from 11 ($2.1 billion) in 2017 but down from 18 ($11.6 billion) in 2016.
The North American P3 market specifically saw modest activity in the transportation sector, while social infrastructure P3s represented more promising growth, according to multiple industry sources
