Print it: A look back at i3 over the years

by Drew Campbell

It is sometimes hard to believe Institutional Investing in Infrastructure is approaching its 10th year in publication. IREI launched i3 in 2008, first as a quarterly print publication and supplement for the i3 conference, and then as a monthly digital publication as the financial crisis hit and resources were pinched. With our November issue, we return to printing i3 on a quarterly basis to help supplement our digital version and as a first step toward seeing through our original objective when we first set out — to be a monthly print “magaletter,” part newsletter and part magazine.

Most publications have a difficult time getting off the ground — by one measure 90 percent of publications ultimately fail, and 50 percent don’t survive the first year — and i3 has had its share of ups and downs. But not only has the publication survived, it survived a first year in the beginning of the Great Financial Crisis and the difficult years
