An evolving infrastructure benchmark

Since GRESB expanded its scope to cover the infrastructure side of real assets in 2016, the infrastructure benchmark has grown from 160 to 652 assets and from 64 to 166 funds. Just as participation across regions and markets continues to increase year-over-year, providing us with a more accurate snapshot of the outlook for ESG reporting globally, scores have followed a similar upward trend. In 2022, this trend hit a major milestone; we saw five participants achieve the maximum available score of 100 as part of the GRESB Infrastructure Fund & Asset Assessments. So now we ask, what does this mean for the future of the benchmark, and how must it evolve to effectively assess the efforts and performance of participants across the infrastructure sector?
