Zouk Capital invests $40m in new EV charging company

Zouk Capital has invested an initial £30 million ($40 million) to launch a new public electric-vehicle charging company called Zest.

An estimated 500,000 destination and public charge points will be needed by 2030, yet there are fewer than 30,000 today, many of which are unsupported. Zest intends to address these challenges and democratize EV ownership by filling the gaps in the U.K.’s maturing EV infrastructure. The company is backed by the Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund.

“Zest is deploying its charging network in locations such as shopping centers, car parks, restaurants, city centers where people regularly park their cars for extended periods of time,” said Massimo Resta, partner at Zouk Capital. “The idea is to provide a way to charge EVs without disrupting people’s routines, and at the same time making it easy for landowners to join the EV revolution.
