World’s longest sea-crossing bridge to open in China

by Jody Barhanovich

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge, the world’s longest sea-crossing bridge, will have its opening ceremony Oct. 23 in Zhuhai, China, according to the South China Morning Post.

The 34-mile bridge adds a new milestone to Beijing’s overall push to create its own Greater Bay Area, which comprises a technology-led economic hub involving Hong Kong, Macau and nine Guangdong province cities. The bridge will link the three cities, all within an hour’s drive from each other.

Hong Kong has invested $15.3 billion into the nine-year project, according to the South China Morning Post.

The mega-project bridge will likely be open at the day of the ceremony; however, some last-minute changes still needed to be made.
