West Burton Energy sells its operational CCGT and BESS to TotalEnergies

by Andrea Zander

West Burton Energy (WBE), a U.K.-based independent power producer, has signed a binding agreement to sell the West Burton B 1,332-megawatts Combined Cycle Gas Turbine facility and the 49-megawatt battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Nottinghamshire, England, to TotalEnergies for an enterprise value of £450 million (€528 million/$575 million).

WBE is owned by funds managed by EIG, a leading institutional investor in the global energy and infrastructure sectors.

WBE and its existing leadership team, supported by EIG, will focus on growing its energy storage platform in the United Kingdom and Europe.

WBE is currently developing the 2.9-gigawatt-hour Thorpe Marsh battery energy storage project in Yorkshire, England, and the 1-gigawatt-hour West Burton C project in Nottinghamshire, which are expected to come online in 2026 or 2027.
