Vestas captures 72MW wind order in Argentina

by Kali Persall

Vestas said it has secured a 72-megawatt wind order for a project in Argentina.

The order includes the supply of 16 V150-4.5-megawatt turbines as well as a 30-year active output management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. The customer and project names were not disclosed at the customer’s request.

Deliveries and commissioning for the new wind farm are planned for 2024.

Wind power accounted for 8 percent of Argentina’s total installed power generation capacity and 9 percent of total power generation in 2021, according to GlobalData. Argentina’s wind power generation capacity grew at a compound annual growth rate of 52 percent from 2010 to 2021, reaching 3,321 megawatts, and generation grew at an annual growth rate of 74 percent to reach 13,056 gigawatt hours in 2021.

Vestas is a pioneer in Argentina’s wind energy market, having installed the country's first commercial wind turbine in Comodoro Rivadavia in 1994.
