UAE groups form green hydrogen research hub at COP28 to transform steel sector

by Kali Persall

Emirates Steel Arkan (ESA), one of the largest publicly traded steel and building materials manufacturers in the region; Ohmium International, a green hydrogen company that designs, manufactures and deploys advanced Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzers; and Khalifa University of Science and Technology, an internationally recognized academic institution based in the UAE; have signed a strategic collaboration on hydrogen research and development at COP28, which is taking place until Dec. 12 in Dubai.

This strategic collaboration between the private sector and academia aims to deliver a comprehensive research and development program to help accelerate the uptake of green hydrogen. Under the agreement, the three entities will develop cleaner production methods for steel products, such as green steel, which can be used in sustainable construction and infrastructure projects.

The agreement is in line with the UAE National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology
