The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced a $284 million Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan to help finance the Water Infrastructure Renewal Program in DeKalb County, Ga.
DeKalb County will use the loan to upgrade its aging drinking water-distribution system to deliver safe, reliable drinking water to more than 750,000 residents while building capacity for sustainable growth. The Water Infrastructure Renewal Program includes replacing water pipes in the distribution system to address water-main breaks. The program will also upgrade the disinfection system, add backup power and replace water-storage tanks to increase capacity.
