The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected 75 new research projects in which it will invest $128 million to advance solar technologies.
According to DOE, the projects will lower solar electricity costs, boost solar manufacturing, reduce red tape and shore up solar systems against cyberattacks.
“In the last three years, we have doubled our solar capacity,” said Rick Perry, U.S. secretary of Energy. “At DOE, we're working to ensure that solar is more affordable for every American by reducing regulatory burdens and increasing the security and resiliency of our solar energy supply.”
The selected projects span 22 states.
Photovoltaics research and development will comprise $23.6 million of the funding, to be used for 21 projects that aim to reduce the cost of solar photovoltaics by half. The photovoltaic projects will focus on increasing performance, reducing material and manufacturing costs and improving the reliability of photovoltaic cells, mo
