U.K. pension funds offer collective commitment to net-zero emissions

Representatives of 14 pension funds, with a collective £267.9 billion ($368 billion) of assets under management, have pledged their commitment to reaching net-zero emissions by signing on to the A4S Pension Fund Net Zero Statement of Support.

The A4S Pension Fund Net Zero Statement of Support is a commitment by signatories to take action, rather than a call to action for others to take action.

According to Accounting for Sustainability (A4S), a project established by the Prince of Wales in 2004, chairs of pension funds represent the “start of the chain” for investment decisions. They are responsible for setting the direction of their plan’s investment strategy and instructing their service providers to follow this mandate. A4S reasons that using their collective voice encourages peers to consider the steps to a net zero-aligned pension portfolio.
