Italian train operator Trenitalia, which is controlled by Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, has acquired full ownership of Netinera Deutschland, a German company operating in public transport and rail freight.
Trenitalia paid roughly €118 million ($143 million) to acquire 49 percent of the share capital from Cube Transport Sarl, a Luxembourg investment fund specializing in infrastructure and public services, making it the sole shareholder of the company.
On Nov. 25 the European Commission provided clearance for the acquisition.
The Netinera Group is one of the largest private transport companies in Germany, according to Netinera’s website.
