Transmission Capital Partners, a consortium comprising International Public Partnerships (INPP), Amber Infrastructure and Transmission Investment, has emerged as the preferred bidder for an offshore transmission project in southeast England.
INPP said this is the eighth project for which the consortium has been appointed as the preferred bidder.
The contract includes the long-term license and operation of the project, which involves a transmission cable connection to Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, located 13 kilometers (8 miles) off the Sussex coast in the United Kingdom.
Rampion consists of 116, 3.45-megawatt wind turbine generators with an installed capacity of 400 megawatts, connected to the offshore substation platform located at the Rampion wind farm.
The wind farm was developed by E.ON, a German international investor-owned energy company, which still owns 50.1 percent of the asset. Green Investment Group owns 25 percent, and Enbridge owns the remaining 24.9 percent.
The consortium plans to invest £35 million to £45 million ($42 million to $54 million) in the project, and achieve a financial close in the first half of 2020, according to INPP. It is expected to transmit enough electricity to power 350,000 homes.
Furthermore, the investment is expected to increase INPP’s contribution to the United Kingdom’s transition to a zero carbon economy.
