Energy suppliers Enstroga, Igloo Energy and Symbio Energy have become the latest firms to cease trading as global gas prices hit an unprecedented spike.
The move is set to leave 233,000 customers without a supplier, according to news reports. The customers have been advised to wait until a new supplier is located before switching.
Reports say nine small energy suppliers have gone bust since the beginning of September.
Natural gas prices were 99 percent higher than this time last year, CNBC reported on Sept. 9, due to a combination of supply concerns and rising demand. These prices are expected to continue rising, and Goldman Sachs analysts have predicted another doubling of price if the winter months bring colder weather than usual.
