The Port of Rotterdam Authority readies site for massive hydrogen plant

The Port of Rotterdam Authority is developing an 11-hectare (27-acre) site for the construction of a large green hydrogen plant. It will be located on the Maasvlakte, a massive man-made westward extension of the Europoort port and industrial facility within the Port of Rotterdam.

In March, the minister for Climate and Energy announced the draft ministerial regulations for IJmuiden Ver Wind Farm Zone Beta, for which a formal tender process will start in the second half of 2023. It will have a capacity of 2 gigawatts and should be ready around 2028.

The Port of Rotterdam Authority will reserve 11 hectares (27 acres) on the Maasvlakte exclusively for the party that wins this tender and wants to produce green hydrogen on a large scale in Rotterdam.
