The U.S. wind industry installed 2.55 gigawatts of new wind power capacity in second quarter 2020, the highest second quarter capacity installation on record. Additions in the first half of the year total 4.37 gigawatts, marking the highest first half for installations as well, according to the newly released Wind Powers America Second Quarter Report 2020.
Project owners commissioned 14 new projects across nine states in the second quarter. Texas led with 810 megawatts installed, followed by Kansas (396 megawatts), Colorado (299 megawatts), Missouri (242 megawatts) and Nebraska (231 megawatts).
There are now 109.92 gigawatts of operating wind power capacity in the United States, with more than 60,000 wind turbines operating across 41 states and two U.S. territories.
