TenneT and GES plan for large-scale controllable congestion BESS in Netherlands

by Elise Mackanych

TenneT, a Dutch transmission system operator (TSO), has signed a contract with Green Energy Storage (GES) for a large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in the North Brabant region of the Netherlands.

This large-scale BESS is planned to relieve grid congestion, by not discharging to the grid at times of high renewable production.

This agreement is a time-bound transmission right, meaning that the TSO’s customers can access energy at special rates when used outside of peak hours.
