Templeborough Biomass Power Plant commences operations

by Jody Barhanovich

Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners has announced that Templeborough Biomass Power Plant, with a capacity of 42 megawatts, has successfully commenced commercial operations.

Templeborough Biomass is located in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, United Kingdom, and produces renewable power with locally sourced waste wood as fuel. Templeborough Biomass will operate under the Renewables Obligation Certificate regime for power.

The EPC contractors are Babcock & Wilcox Vølund and Interserve, and Babcock & Wilcox Vølund will continue as the O&M contractor.

Templeborough Biomass is fully owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure II, a fund managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners. CI II has invested approximately £160 million ($212 million) equity in Templeborough Biomass, which has no third-party debt.

The plant capacity of 42 megawatts will be sufficient to serve roughly 78,000 homes and offset 150,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year. The project has created the equivalent of more than 250 full-time jobs during the construction phase and 26 jobs will permanently be established onsite to operate the plant for its lifetime of more than 20 years
