by Elise Mackanych

The Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois (ITRS) has committed $100 million to Principal Data Center Growth & Income Fund, a vehicle of Principal Asset Management.

Principal Data Center Growth & Income fund is an opportunistic, closed-end fund that invests in data centers across the United States. It has a fundraising goal of $3 billion. This commitment follows Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System’s $100 million commitment in January 2025.

ITRS is a public pension fund with $74 billion in assets, as of Dec. 31, 2024. As of then, it had a 16 percent real estate allocation target and $10.3 billion in total real estate assets.
