Swiss airport operator wins bid to develop largest airport in India

by Kali Persall

Flughafen Zürich, the owner and operator of Zurich Airport, has won a 40-year concession contract to design, develop and operate the new Noida International Airport at Jewar in India, according to InfraPPP.

Flughafen Zürich bested three other companies that were shortlisted to participate in bids by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) last month. A total of 20 companies had submitted qualifications for the tender of the project.

The new airport will be built roughly 80 kilometers (49.7 miles) south of Delhi on a 5,100-hectare (12,602-acre) plot of land. It is expected to help accommodate forecasted flight traffic growth rates in the National Capital Region and will be developed over several phases.

During the first phase, two runways will be built over a construction period of four years. The $657 million project is expected to accommodate 12 million passengers per year and will wrap up construction in 2023.
