SUSI Partners AG buys first wind farm in Ireland

by Jody Barhanovich

The SUSI Renewable Energy Fund II, managed by SUSI Partners AG (SUSI), a Swiss investment manager focused on financing the energy transition and sustainable energy infrastructure investments, has acquired its first wind farm in Ireland.

The 13.2-megawatt Cappawhite B (Cappawhite) park in southern Ireland was acquired by wind power developer ABO Wind AG (ABO Wind) and comprises four Vestas V105 turbines with an annual output of more than 40 gigawatt hours. The wind farm will supply clean electricity to more than 10,000 households starting in second quarter 2018 and will allow emission savings of around 13,500 tons of carbon dioxcide each year.

The wind farm is currently owned by ABO Wind subsidiary ABO Wind Ireland in Milestone, North Tipperary County, Republic of Ireland. Commissioning is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018. The technical and commercial management of the park is also taken over by a subsidiary of the German wind power developer.

After several successful wind farm takeovers of ABO Wind in Germany, SUSI expands the long-term partnership with the company to the Irish market.
“ABO Wind has completed four wind power projects with a total capacity of more than 80 megawatts in Ireland and is currently developing another 150 megawatts in this market,” said Sönke Voigt, managing director of ABO Wind.
