Statkraft buys out Airvolution Clean Energy

by Kali Persall

Statkraft, the largest generator of renewable energy in Europe, has bought out U.K. onshore wind developer Airvolution Clean Energy for an undisclosed purchase price.

According to the company, the deal furthers Statkraft’s plan to deploy 600 megawatts of onshore wind and solar generation in the United Kingdom.

In 2018, the company acquired Element Power Group, assuming ownership of 1,300 megawatts of wind farms under development in Ireland and 250 megawatts in the United Kingdom. At the time, Statkraft owned and operated 11 wind farms (1,000 megawatts of capacity) in the United Kingdom and Norway, according to Energy Voice.

Statkraft said Airvolution has been working on behalf of the renewable company since October 2017 to identify, secure and bring forward project opportunities in Scotland. With the deal, Airvolution will move in-house to work alongside Statkraft, which also aims to double its workforce with new recruits starting in September.
