I Squared Capital acquires majority stake in Whistler Pipeline system

by Kali Persall

I Squared Capital has acquired a controlling interest in the Whistler Pipeline, a natural gas infrastructure system connecting the Permian Basin’s growing natural gas supply to LNG, Mexico and Gulf Coast demand.

I Squared Capital acquired the pipeline system via its ISQ Global Infrastructure Fund III from First Infrastructure Capital, Ridgemont Equity Partners, affiliates of West Texas Gas Inc., affiliates of Stonepeak Partners and the WhiteWater management team.

Completed in June 2021, the Whistler Pipeline has approximately 2 billion cubic feet per day of current capacity, which will be expanded to 2.5 billion cubic feet per day by late 2023. The system is composed of 450 miles of 42-inch diameter pipeline that transports natural gas from the Waha area in the Permian Basin to Agua Dulce, Texas, with connections on to Corpus Christi and the coast. The pipeline also has an approximately 85-mile, 36-inch diameter lateral to the Midland Basin.
