The energy transition has been under way for several years, but two recent developments in this shift are significant for investors, according to a report by John DiMarco, managing director with Igneo Infrastructure Partners, which was published in the December issue of Institutional Investing in Infrastructure.
These developments are the substantial reduction in the levelized cost of solar power and the breakthrough in storage, given increased availability of lithium-ion technology. “Battery storage harnesses the capture of renewable energy for delivery throughout the day, including at times of peak demand,” says DiMarco. “This applies to the natural generation periods of solar into the hours they are most needed.”
