Spark Infrastructure, an Australian investment fund that owns and manages a portfolio of electricity infrastructure assets, is planning to inject A$1 billion ($717 million) into a renewable energy generation portfolio during the next five years, according to several news reports.
The company also will build infrastructure such as poles and wires to support the national electricity market's transition from coal to renewables.
Spark Infrastructure said it will take advantage of “substantial” opportunities for grid investment proposed in the Australian Energy Market Operator’s Integrated System Plan, according to Renew Economy.
Spark Infrastructure has been actively exploring new opportunities in the renewables sector as of late, as part of the firm’s value build strategy. Of particular interest are greenfield development projects, such as wind and solar, in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria.
