Spanish insurance group MAPFRE and Spanish financial company Abante have partnered with Macquarie to launch a €200 million ($236 million) infrastructure fund, known as MAPFRE Infraestructuras FCR.
The fund will facilitate access to the main investment strategies in global infrastructure through Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA).
MAPFRE will contribute €50 million ($59 million) in initial capital and invite other institutional investors and private banking clients to participate in the fund under a co-investment model.
As part of the agreement, MAPFRE and Abante will work with MIRA to select investments within the portfolio of strategies that MIRA currently has in place, which include renewable energy, transport, communications, public services and waste management.
