by Kali Persall

SJVN, an Indian public sector undertaking involved in hydroelectric power generation and transmission, has signed a deal with Tata Power Solar Systems to build a 1,000-megawatt solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The INR 5,500 crore ($733.6 million) EPC contract is the largest solar contract awarded in the country to date, according to Nand Lal Sharma, chairman and managing director of SJVN

Following commissioning, the plant is expected to generate 2.455 billion units of electricity in the first year and 56.838 billion units over 25 years. The project is also expected to reduce more than 2.8 million metric tons of carbon emissions over 25 years.

The project is expected to be commissioned by May 2024.
