Six projects representing 1,075 megawatts and nearly 3 gigawatt hours of energy have been selected as successful bidders under Tender 2 of the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap — Australia’s largest storage tender to date. The outcome far exceeded the final indicative tender size of 930 megawatts.
The successful bidders from Tender 2 include two two-hour duration battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects, one four-hour duration BESS project, and three demand-response virtual power plant (VPP) projects. The successful bidders are contracted to be on-line by the end of 2025.
The list of six winning projects includes:
BlackRock-backed Akaysha Energy’s 415-megawatt-hour to 1,660-megawatt-hour Orana battery
AGL Energy’s 500-megawatt-hour to 1,000-megawatt-hour Liddell battery
Iberdrola Australia’s 65-megawatt-hour to 130-megawatt-hour Smithfield Sydney battery
