Shell, Regents of the University of California sign PPA with Pattern Energy for portion of SunZia Wind generation

Shell Energy North America and the Regents of the University of California will acquire a portion of the power from the more than 3,500-megawatt SunZia Wind project, the largest wind project in the Western Hemisphere, under new long-term power-purchase agreements with Pattern Energy Group.

SunZia Wind project will generate energy in New Mexico’s Torrance, Lincoln and San Miguel Counties once the project reaches completion in 2026.

SunZia Wind, a 550-mile, 525-kilovolt high-voltage direct current transmission line between central New Mexico and south central Arizona, will supply customers in Arizona and California with 3,000 megawatts of clean, renewable energy during the crucial early evening hours when demand is high but the available renewable-energy supply is low.
