Quinbrook signs PPA for $1b Nevada solar and battery storage project

by Kali Persall

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with NV Energy for the $1 billion AC Gemini Solar + Battery Storage Project, the largest solar-powered battery storage system in the world announced to date.

The AC Gemini Solar + Battery Storage Project will be located across 7,100 acres in Clark County, Nevada, and feature a 690-megawatt AC solar power system, coupled with a 380-megawatt AC battery storage system.

Upon completion, it will be capable of storing more than 1,400 megawatt hours of low-cost, renewable power each day and reduce carbon emissions by more than 1.5 million tons per year.

It has the capability to power more than 400,000 homes in Nevada.

Quinbrook, which recently raised $1.6 billion in capital commitments from institutional investors in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, will finance the project through its Low Carbon Power Fund.

Construction is expected to take place over 18 months, with the facility being operational before the end of 2023.
