Quinbrook and Primergy bring largest colocated solar-plus-battery energy storage system project online in Nevada

by Kali Persall

Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners and its portfolio company Primergy have brought online the landmark Gemini Solar + Storage project in Clark County, Nev. With 690 megawatts of solar and 380 megawatts of battery storage, Gemini is the largest colocated solar-plus-battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the United States.

Gemini was built with 1.8 million solar panels that can generate up to 690 megawatts, powering approximately 10 percent of Nevada’s peak power demand. The solar arrays are co-located with 380 megawatts of four-hour battery storage to provide residents in Nevada with 1,400 megawatt hours of clean, reliable power after sundown.

During the project’s development, Primergy and Quinbrook closed on a historic $1.9 billion in debt and tax equity financing for construction and development.

“Gemini broke the mold with a historic amount of solar and BESS, backed by the largest tax equity financing of its kind,” said Ty Daul, CEO of Primergy
