QTS Realty Trust fits four new data centers with renewable energy

by Kali Persall

QTS Realty Trust, a provider of mega-scale data center solutions, has powered four additional data centers with renewable energy through a variety of solar and wind purchasing agreements.

The QTS Hillsboro, QTS Fort Worth, QTS Eemshaven, Netherlands and QTS Richmond data centers are located in Hillsboro, Ore.; Fort Worth, Texas; and Eemshaven, Netherlands. They join QTS data centers in Irving, Texas; Chicago; Piscataway, N.J.; and Groningen, Netherlands; which are also currently powered by renewable energy.

The company is seeking to source 100 percent of the power required for all of its data centers from renewable sources by 2025. Roughly 36 percent of the company’s portfolio of wide data center power requirements are currently sourced from renewable energy.

According to the EPA, QTS is one of the largest users of green power among all data center companies and the 12th-largest user among top tech and telecom companies.
