Polish oil refiner PKN Orlen has received a €158 million ($173 million) grant from the European Commission to build a 100-megawatt renewable hydrogen project, according to Renewables Now.
LOTOS Green H2, PKN Orlen’s special-purpose vehicle, will receive the funds to install an electrolyzer system for green hydrogen production, along with a 50-megawatt solar power plant with 20 megawatt hours of battery storage.
The electrolyzer is expected to begin operation in 2027 and gradually ramp up its production to 13,600 metric tons of hydrogen per year.
The output will be used in the fuel production processes in PKN Orlen's refinery in Gdansk, Poland.
